T-Minus 44: What This Ride Means

In 44 days, I begin my Warrior Expeditions ride across the country.

  • Yes, it’s a cross-country bike ride.

  • Yes, it will be demanding.

  • Yes, there will be long days, unknowns, and plenty of reasons to stay comfortable instead.

That is exactly why it matters.

  • It means challenge with purpose.

  • It means saying yes to something that requires preparation, commitment, and the willingness to keep going.

  • It means stepping fully into an experience that is physical, personal, and meaningful.

As a combat veteran, it also means being part of something that honors service while creating space for reflection, endurance, and forward movement.

And at this point in my life, it means something else too.

  • It means refusing the idea that aging is about shrinking back, playing it safe, and expecting less.

  • It means improving my strength, and endurance.

  • It means choosing effort, adventure, and possibility.

  • It means proving, at least to myself, that life can still ask something big of me and that I can still answer.

That is what this ride means to me. This ride is not just about where I’m going.

It is about why I’m going. And the why is what gives the miles their purpose and meaning
