The Rhythm of the Ride

Now that the first week of my bike expedition is complete, something has changed.

I’ve found my rhythm.

At the beginning of any big adventure, everything feels uncertain. Your mind races ahead. The miles seem impossible. The destination feels too far away.

But eventually, something changes and you stop thinking about the entire journey and start trusting the rhythm.

My new rhythm:

  • Wake up. Eat. Pack up.

  • Ride 10 miles.

  • Take a break.

  • Ride 10 more.

  • Take a break.

  • Repeat the process until I’ve reached the destination for the day.

  • Then rest. Eat. Recover.

  • Then wake up tomorrow and do it again.

  • Simple. Straightforward.

That’s the secret I’ve discovered for taking on long adventures.

You don’t conquer 3,826 miles all at once.

Your focus is living today’s miles.

  • One section of the ride.

  • One break.

  • One day at a time.

I’ve come to understand that your daily rhythm is what carries you farther than motivation ever will.

Big goals stop feeling overwhelming when you stop staring at the end and start trusting the process.

Adventure boldly.
