The Mile You’re In

If you were to ask me what I’ve learned during this adventure, I’d tell you this:

Life unfolds a lot better when you stop trying to outrun it.

At the beginning of a long-distance ride, it’s easy to become obsessed with the future.

How far until camp?
How many miles remain?
What state comes next?
How long until the finish?

You can spend so much time mentally riding three towns ahead that you completely miss the place you’re actually in.

But somewhere along the trail, something quietly changes. You begin to understand that the ride doesn’t happen in the future.

So here’s what this ride keeps teaching me:

  • Don’t waste today worrying about tomorrow.

  • Don’t rush the miles.

  • Don’t get tangled up measuring progress every day.

  • And don’t live too far ahead of yourself.

Just be here. Fully here.

Because the ride is happening now. The lesson is happening now. Life is unfolding in this moment, not five towns ahead.

Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is stop chasing what’s next and become completely aware of what already is.
