Celebrating America at the Halfway Point
The best view of America isn’t from behind a windshield. It’s from behind a pair of handlebars.
Today is the Fourth of July, and our Warrior Expeditions team has the privilege of celebrating Independence Day in Norfolk, Nebraska, almost exactly halfway across our ride from Washington, D.C., to Washington State.
After more than 1,800 miles, this feels like the perfect place to pause.
There’s something fitting about celebrating the Fourth of July after experiencing the country one community at a time. Patriotism isn’t just found in parades, fireworks, or flags. It’s found in ordinary people who care for one another without expecting anything in return. It’s found in neighbors who welcome travelers, volunteers who serve their communities, veterans who continue to answer the call, and citizens who quietly make their corner of the country a little better than they found it.
This journey has strengthened more than my legs. It has strengthened my faith in the people who make up this nation.
Tomorrow, we’ll point our bicycles west again toward Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and eventually the Pacific Ocean.
But today, we’ll celebrate the country we’ve been fortunate enough to experience at bicycle speed.
Happy Independence Day from Norfolk, Nebraska.
See you down the road.
